Daycares in Nevada

Nevada scores licensed daycares through Silver State Stars, the state's quality rating program. Silver State Stars scores providers on a 1 to 5 star scale across four areas: program policies and procedures, administration and staff development, health and safety, and family and community partnerships, combined with the Environment Rating Scales.

Nevada's minimum legal requirements for adult-to-child ratios and group sizes fall below the standards published by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the leading professional accreditation body for early-childhood programs and the most widely cited benchmark for high-quality care, at the infant and preschool age bands. The state caps infant ratios at 1:6 (NAEYC: 1:4), toddler ratios at 1:6 (matching NAEYC), and preschool ratios at 1:13 (NAEYC: 1:10). Group sizes follow a similar pattern: infant groups at 12 (NAEYC: 8), toddler groups at 12 (matching NAEYC), and preschool groups at 26 (NAEYC: 20). Lead-teacher credentials and pre-service training hours are not set in state rule. Required ongoing professional development is 24 hours per year, close to NAEYC's recommended 25.

These minimum legal requirements apply to every licensed daycare in Nevada, regardless of its Silver State Stars rating. They are one of the Structural inputs in every Childery rating shown above. The rating distribution above combines that Structural input with Silver State Stars scores and other Process inputs to produce the Overall scores.
