Toxic Substances and/or Hazardous materials including cleaning supplies, flammable products, and poisonous items were accessible to children in care. FDCH/LFCCH Handbook, Section 7.2 Health Requirements [SR] A bottle of alcohol was observed on the bathroom counter. This was resolved during this inspection when the provider moved the alcohol and stored it in a locked cabinet. A mop bucket with a small amount of water in it and a mop was sitting in the bathtub. This was resolved when the provider poured the water out of the bucket and removed the bucket and mop from the tub. Technical assistance given: 7.2 Toxic Substances, Hazardous Materials and Poisonous Items A. All areas and surfaces accessible to children shall be free from toxic substances and hazardous materials/equipment/tools, including power tools, plastic bags, matches, candles, lighters, etc. These items, as well as knives, sharp tools, BB guns, pellet guns and other potentially dangerous hazards, shall either be stored and in a locked area or must be inaccessible and out of a childs reach. B. All potentially harmful items including cleaning supplies, flammable products, poisonous, toxic, and hazardous materials must be labeled and used according to manufacturers recommendation.

Indoor play areas in the home were not clean and free from litter, nails, glass, and other hazards. FDCH/LFCCH Handbook, Section 7.5, B Health Requirements [SR] The home/indoor play area is completely cluttered with miscellaneous (boxes, toys, shelving) items and poses a fire hazard. Technical assistance given: 7.5 Indoor Play Areas Indoor Play Areas A. Operators must promote developmentally appropriate active play for all children, including infants and toddlers, every day. B. All areas of the home including the play areas shall be in good repair, clean and free from litter, nails, glass, and other hazards. C. Strings and cords long enough to encircle a childs neck, such as those on toys and window coverings, shall not be accessible to children. D. Bathtubs, buckets, diaper pails, and other open containers of water must be emptied immediately after use.

A health and safety deficiency having a moderate potential for harm to the children in care was observed. FDCH/LFCCH Handbook, Section 7.5, B Health Requirements [SR] The home/indoor play area was observed to be completely cluttered without having a safe indoor play area. Technical assistance given: 7.5 Indoor Play Areas A. Operators must promote developmentally appropriate active play for all children, including infants and toddlers, every day. B. All areas of the home including the play areas shall be in good repair, clean and free from litter, nails, glass, and other hazards. C. The home had no designated area where each child can sit quietly or lie down to rest or nap. FDCH/LFCCH Handbook, Section 7.8, A Health Requirements [SR] A child was observed napping on a sofa. This was resolved during this inspection when the provider woke the child up. Technical assistance given: 7.8 Appropriate, Safe and Sanitary Bedding A. A home must include a designated area where each child can sit quietly or lie down to rest or nap. Each child in care must be provided safe and sanitary bedding to be used when napping or sleeping. Linens must be washed at least once a week and more often if soiled or dirty. All bedding and linens must be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized at least once a week and before use by another child. Bedding and linens, when not in use, must be stored in a sanitary manner which prevents the spread of germs or lice from other linens.

Child care personnel did not wash their hands with soap and running water and thoroughly dry after assisting a child with toileting or diapering or following personal hygiene procedures. FDCH/LFCCH Handbook, Section 7.16 Health Requirements [SR] The operator changed the diapers of two children and did not wash her hands after each diaper change. This was resolved during this inspection after the operator washed her hands. Technical assistance given: 7.16 Hand Hygiene Child care personnel and children shall wash their hands with soap and running water, dry thoroughly, and follow personal hygiene procedures for themselves or while assisting others, and immediately after outdoor play. Situations or times that children and child care personnel must perform hand hygiene should be posted in all food preparation, diapering and toileting areas. A. Upon arrival for the day, after breaks, or when moving from one group to another. B. Before and after the following activities: 1. Preparing food or beverages; 2. Eating, handling food, or feeding a child; 3. Brushing or helping brush a childs teeth; 4. Giving medication or applying a medical ointment or cream in which a break in the skin (e.g., sores, cuts, or scrapes) may be encountered; 5. Playing in water (including swimming) that is used by more than one person; and 6. Diapering. C. After the following activities: 1. Using the toilet or helping a child use a toilet; 2. Handling bodily fluid (mucus, blood, vomit); 3. Handling animals or cleaning up animal waste; 4. Playing in sand, on wooden play sets, and outdoors; and 5. Cleaning or handling the garbage.
